WiFi Touch Switch Reconnection Guide

WiFi Touch Switch Reconnection Guide

If you have recently upgraded your home internet router, moved to a new Internet Service Provider (ISP), or updated your wireless network's security password, your Retrotouch Wi-Fi Smart Switches will lose their secure connection and appear as "Offline" inside the app.

Because smart switches do not have a keyboard interface, they cannot automatically update to a new password. You must perform a quick network refresh to pass the new credentials over to the switches.

New Router Shortcut

Before resetting all the physical switches around your house individually, you can try this network shortcut. If you set up your new router to exactly mimic your old network configuration, all of your smart switches will instantly reconnect without you having to re-pair a single one.

  1. Look up the login instructions for your new router's admin panel (usually found on a sticker on the back of the router).

  2. Navigate to the Wireless Settings menu.

  3. Change the new Wi-Fi network name (SSID) so that it is exactly identical to your old Wi-Fi network name (case-sensitive).

  4. Change the Wi-Fi password so it matches your old password exactly.

  5. Save the settings and reboot the router. Your switches will recognize their original security tokens and jump back online automatically.

Note: If you are doing this, ensure your old router is completely powered off or unplugged so the signals do not conflict.

The Standard Route: Updating the Switches via the App

If you want to keep your new Wi-Fi network name or password, you must push the updated security credentials to the switches manually. You do not need to delete the switches from your app first—re-adding them over the top will preserve all of your custom room assignments, timers, and automation scenes.

Follow this step-by-step sequence for each switch:

1. Trigger Wi-Fi Reset Mode: Go to your main fuse board/consumer unit and turn OFF the electrical breaker for the lighting circuit.

Press and hold your finger firmly on the active touch area of the switch, then turn the breaker back ON while keeping your finger held down.

Watch the background LEDs. The moment they begin to flash Red, release your finger immediately. The switch is now broadcasting its pairing beacon.

2. Connect Your Phone to the 2.4GHz Network: Open your smartphone’s Wi-Fi settings and ensure your phone is connected to your new router network.

(Remember: The switch requires a 2.4GHz connection. If your new router merges 2.4GHz and 5GHz together, temporarily disable the 5GHz band in your router settings during this process).

3. Update via the App: Open the Smart Life app and tap the "+" (Add Device) icon in the top right corner.

The app's auto-scan tool will immediately discover the flashing switch via Bluetooth. Tap Add.

Type in your new Wi-Fi password when prompted. The app will securely send the new credentials over to the switch. Once the connection wheel hits 100%, the switch's LED will turn solid, and it will be fully operational under your new network settings.

Troubleshooting Post-Password Changes

  • The switch is flashing red, but the app cannot find it: Check your smartphone's system settings. Ensure that Bluetooth, Location Services, and Local Network Access (for iOS) are turned ON for Smart Life app. Without these permissions, the app cannot bridge across to a newly configured router.

  • The switch works manually but stays "Offline" in the app: If you changed your router, your new provider's built-in security profile (such as BT Web Protect, Sky Shield, or Virgin Child Safe) might be blocking the switch from reaching its smart cloud server. Temporarily disable these internet provider security features inside your broadband account dashboard to allow the switch to verify its connection.
