This is the most common issue during initial installation.
The Inverted Module Problem: The internal module can easily be snapped into the Retrotouch casing upside down. Pop off the glass faceplate and look for a tiny arrow stamped into the black plastic module. It must point UP. If it points down, your button presses are registering backwards, causing the pairing sequence to fail.
The "Soft Click" Failure: Because the switch relies on kinetic energy harvesting, a gentle press will not generate enough voltage to power the radio chip. When pairing, you must press the designated button down with firm, sudden force until you hear a loud, distinct clack, and hold it tightly for the full 10 seconds.
Distance to the Nearest Bulb: The pairing signal is ultra-low energy. If your Hue Bridge is far away, the switch relies on a nearby mains-powered Hue bulb to act as a proxy. Ensure the switch is within 2 to 3 meters of a working Hue bulb during the initial pairing process.
If your switch was working fine but has suddenly died, the culprit is almost always a network configuration or power state change.
The Wall Switch Was Flicked Off: Check if someone physically turned off a secondary manual switch on the same circuit. If power to the Hue bulbs is cut, the Retrotouch switch has no "proxy nodes" to receive its kinetic signal, rendering it useless.
Zigbee Channel Migration: If your Hue Bridge automatically changes its Zigbee channel to avoid Wi-Fi interference, the kinetic switch can occasionally lose track of it. To fix this, you must force a channel re-sync:
In the Hue App, go to Settings -> Hue Bridges -> Zigbee.
Note your current channel, and change it to a clean one (Channel 15, 20, or 25 are usually best).
Physically click each button on your Retrotouch switch firmly 5–10 times to force it to scan and latch onto the new channel.
If pressing the top button turns the lights off, or the left rocker is controlling the right room:
Incorrect Casing Layout: The physical plastic rockers might be oriented incorrectly over the internal contact nipples.
How to Fix:
Open the Hue App and navigate to Settings -> Accessories -> Select your Retrotouch switch.
Look at the software diagram layout.
If the app thinks you have a 1-Gang (one large button) but you installed the 2-Gang (split buttons), tap Configure Rockers in the app to change the software map to match your physical hardware.
If a switch refuses to pair or was previously linked to an old Hue Bridge, you must clear its internal memory cache manually.
Since there are no batteries to remove, you must use a specific mechanical code sequence to wipe the EnOcean PTM 215Z chip:
