Updating Your Smart Life App

Updating Your Smart Life App

The software core of your Retrotouch Wi-Fi Smart Switches relies on continuous communication between the physical switch firmware, your smartphone's operating system, and the cloud ecosystem. Keeping the app interface properly updated ensures access to the latest scheduling tools, energy-saving automations, and security patches.

The Smart Life App (Recommended for Multi-Brand Homes): Powered by Tuya, this is one of the world's largest smart home management applications. If you own third-party smart bulbs, robot vacuums, or heating programmers, installing them alongside your Retrotouch switches inside the Smart Life app allows you to build cross-brand automation rules (e.g., "When I touch the Retrotouch Hallway Switch, turn on my smart garden floodlights").

2. Switch & App Update

If you are using an older version of either app and notice that settings menus are loading slowly or devices are showing up with missing control sliders, perform a clean application update:

1. Check Your App Store:

Open the Apple App Store (iOS) or Google Play Store (Android). Search for your app (Retrotouch or Smart Life) and verify if an "Update" button is present. If it says "Open," you are already on the newest software build.

2.Perform a Forced App Restart:

If the app was recently updated, clear out cached memory errors. Swipe up from the bottom of your smartphone screen to open your active task windows, find the smart home app, and swipe it away to force close it entirely. Re-open the app to initialize the new user interface smoothly.

3. Update the Switch Firmware:

Once your smartphone application is updated, it may request a firmware update for the physical switch.

Inside the app, tap on your Retrotouch switch, tap the Edit / Pencil Icon in the top-right corner, scroll down, and tap Check for Firmware Update. If an update is available, tap Update Now. Do not turn off your home router or the lighting circuit breaker while this digital flash is processing.

3. Resolving Common Update Glitches

"Device Unbound" or Switch Disappeared Post-Update

On rare occasions, when an app undergoes a massive structural version update, security certificates can refresh, which may log you out of your secure user token profile.

  • The Fix: Do not reset your physical switches. Simply log completely out of your account profile menu inside the app, close the app, open it again, and log back in with your original email and password. Your switches and custom room configurations will pull right back down from the cloud server.

App Intermittently Freezes on the Control Dashboard

If your application lags when toggling switches on or off after a phone operating system update (such as migrating to a new iOS or Android version), background smartphone system settings are likely sandboxing the application.

  • The Fix: Go to your smartphone's system Settings menu, scroll down to the app list, select your smart home app, and verify that Local Network Access, Bluetooth, and Background App Refresh are all fully enabled. This gives the app permission to process instant data exchanges with your router.
