Retrotouch rotary dimmer switches allow users to fine-tune lighting levels to suit specific bulb types and personal preferences. One essential feature is the ability to set the minimum brightness. This function is especially useful for eliminating flicker in LED lighting or preventing lights from turning off at low dimming levels.
This article provides a step-by-step guide to entering the setting mode and adjusting the minimum brightness correctly.
Modern dimmable LEDs often behave differently at lower brightness levels. If you notice any of the following:
Flickering at low light
Sudden drop-off where the bulb turns off
Inconsistent dimming performance
You can resolve these issues by setting the minimum brightness. This ensures your dimmer starts from a brightness level that your bulbs can handle reliably.
Ensure all lighting is installed and functional.
Use only dimmable LED or compatible load types.
Ensure power is ON at the consumer unit.
⚠️ Always follow safety instructions and consult a qualified electrician if in doubt.
Turn the dimmer OFF by pressing the rotary knob.
Rotate the knob fully to the maximum brightness position (clockwise).
Press and hold the knob for 5 seconds until the lights turn ON.
Rotate the knob fully to the minimum brightness position (anticlockwise).
Press the knob OFF and then back ON again.
Rotate the knob fully to the maximum brightness position once more.
Press the knob OFF and then ON again.
The lamp will flash once at 50% brightness – this indicates the dimmer is now in minimum brightness setting mode.
Adjust the brightness by rotating the knob until the lowest stable brightness is achieved (i.e. no flicker).
When you’re satisfied with the setting, press OFF and then ON again to save.
The light will flash again to confirm the setting has been stored.
Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
---|---|---|
Lights flicker at low dim | Minimum brightness too low | Increase min brightness in setting mode |
Dimmer does not enter setting mode | Sequence not followed correctly | Repeat steps slowly and ensure correct order |
No response from dimmer | Wiring or load issue | Verify wiring and lamp compatibility |
This procedure uses the dimmer’s internal control—no tools required.
You can repeat this process at any time if you change bulbs or notice flicker.
Always use bulbs within the dimmer's rated load (Max LED Load: 150W (10 Lamps) / Max Halogen Load: 400W).
