How to setup Enocean Zigbee?

This setup guide covers the Retrotouch Zigbee Smart Kinetic Switch. It is designed to work with smart networks such as  Amazon Echo with built-in Zigbee hubs, SmartThings, and open platforms like Home Assistant (Zigbee2MQTT or ZHA)

Because this switch is kinetic and battery-free, it relies on an efficient sequential combination of physical button presses to hold open its internal capacitor energy long enough to broadcast its Zigbee commissioning credentials.

1: Physical Installation

  1. Continuous Power: If you are replacing an existing hardwired light switch, isolate the mains power at your property's breaker box.
Use the included terminal block to permanently connect the incoming Live and Switched Live wires together.
This ensures continuous mains power flows to your smart Zigbee light bulbs, inline relays, or smart plugs.

  2. Mounting: Tuck the bridged wires back inside the junction box and screw the plastic Retrotouch backplate directly into the box.
Alternatively, if surface-mounting on a completely new wall or glass partition, use the provided 3M double-sided adhesive pads.

  3. Orientation Check: Verify that the internal black transmitter module is seated upright inside the frame (the stamped "Top" marker on the plastic housing must point toward the ceiling).
Click your choice of a 1-Gang (single large rocker) or 2-Gang (dual split rockers) plate over the module, then snap on the glass front faceplate.

2: Putting the Switch into Pairing Mode

Unlike battery-powered accessories that can search for networks indefinitely, a kinetic chip must be mechanically prompted to send out its continuous commissioning beacon loop.

Note: For the steps below, visualize the button layout of a 2-Gang setup. The four quadrants correspond to: Top-Left (A0), Bottom-Left (A1), Top-Right (B0), and Bottom-Right (B1).

1. Initiate the Radio Wake-Up: Locks the internal channel.

Press and hold down the Top-Right (B0) and Bottom-Left (A1) buttons simultaneously. Hold them down firmly for 7 full seconds.

2. Trigger the Pairing Broadcast: Fires the Zigbee commissioning beacon.

While still holding those two buttons down, use your other hand to press and release the Top-Left (A0) button exactly once.

Now, let go of all buttons. The switch will utilize its temporarily stored capacitor energy to broadcast a standard Zigbee pairing beacon for the next 30 seconds.

3: Hub Commissioning

Option A: Pairing with Philips Hue Systems

  1. Open the Philips Hue App and navigate to Settings -> Accessories -> Add Accessory.

  2. Select Friends of Hue Switch from the list of device types.

  3. Choose Retrotouch (if listed) or select EnOcean (as they share the core underlying Zigbee kinetic transmitter footprint).

  4. The app will initiate a search scan. Because you triggered the combination in Phase 2, the bridge will discover the module on the network.

  5. Follow the on-screen prompts to assign the 2 or 4 button quadrants to control your chosen smart lighting rooms, dimming profiles, or custom scenes.

Option B: Pairing with Home Assistant (Zigbee2MQTT / ZHA)

  1. In your Home Assistant dashboard, navigate to your Zigbee integration panel (ZHA or Zigbee2MQTT) and click Permit Join / Enable Joining Mode.

  2. Execute the 7-second button pairing combo outlined in Phase 2.

  3. Watch your live logs; your coordinator will intercept the pairing beacon and register a new device entry (often recognized generically as an EnOcean PTM 215Z or Green Power footprint variant device).

  4. Once the pairing interview successfully finishes, use Home Assistant Automations to map any of the four button contact actions to toggle or dim any smart entity in your home.
